Dear friends, on January 22 we celebrate a holiday of great significance for the Ukrainian people – citizens of Ukraine of various ethnic origins – Day of Unity of Ukraine. This holiday has been observed every year since 1999, on the day of the proclamation of the Act of Union of the People's Republic of Ukraine and the People's Republic of western Ukraine, which took place in 1919.
The holiday was established in Ukraine “…in view of the great political and historical significance of the unification of the People's Republic of Ukraine and the People's Republic of western Ukraine for the creation of a single (unified) Ukrainian state…” in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine “On the Day of Unity of Ukraine” of January 21, 1999, No. 42/99.
On this day it is also customary to recall another event that took place exactly a year earlier, on January 22, 1918 — the adoption of the IV Universal of the central Rada of Ukraine, which proclaimed the full independence of the People's Republic of Ukraine.
In honor of the Day of Unity, the Council of National Communities of Ukraine has scheduled a ceremonial event for January 22, 2022 (Saturday) from 12:00 to 14:00, which will consist of the following parts:
